Urban Design of a Future Settlement

ReBAU is developing a resource-saving settlement which is following to the principles of Circular Economy in the Rhenish mining area. This settlement is planned and built in cooperation with the municipality of Inden. In Inden-Schophoven, on the expected shoreland of the future “Indesee” (lake of Inden), a prototypical neighborhood will be developed that will serve as a role model for other settlements. The idea is to transfer some of the main planning principles of the settlement to other locations in the Rhenish mining area.
The approach is based on the concept of the existing climate protection settlements of the EnergieAgentur.NRW and the two Faktor X model settlements in the Rhenish area. The aim is to integrate resource-efficency and circularity measures into a new generation of climate-protection-settlements and thus to understand climate and resource protection across the entire life cycle of a settlement. The focus is not only on individual buildings, but also on resource- and land-saving urban planning.

Furthermore, guidelines for product selection (recycled building materials, renewable raw materials, etc.) as well as a construction method will be developed The goal is to create a guide for municipalities that provides design strategies for resource-saving housing development.
